Key Biscayne Coral Day Proclamation

  • Students for Coral Preservation 88 West McIntyre Street Key Biscayne, FL, 33149 United States (map)

In honor of our planet’s most precious marine ecosystems, the Village of Key Biscayne has officially proclaimed May 13, 2025, as Coral Appreciation Day.

🗣 A Message from Mayor Joe I. Rasco:

Coral reefs are vital marine ecosystems that support an extraordinary diversity of life, act as natural coastal barriers, and sustain the livelihoods of millions. As threats like climate change and pollution grow, it’s more important than ever to protect and restore these ecosystems.

This proclamation recognizes the critical importance of coral reef ecosystems and calls on residents and visitors to protect and preserve them through responsible tourism, waste reduction, and active conservation.

🌺 Why It Matters:

  • Coral reefs protect our shorelines from erosion and storm surges

  • They support industries like fishing, tourism, and recreation

  • They are home to thousands of marine species

Join us in celebrating and protecting coral reefs today and every day.
